Here’s a fun fact…

In the Middle Ages, two meals a day were served. Our modern luncheon was called “dinner” and was served in the morning, between 10 and 11, whilst supper was served between 4 and 7 o’clock.

At the end of the Middle Ages, food was very rich in meat and it was not until the 19th century that such a high level of meat consumption was to be found in the towns and above all, in the country.

(Miniaturists depict medieval tables for us. Since they worked for princes, the powerful or the well-to-do classes, it was on rich tables that their eye rested, peasants appearing but rarely in illuminations, with the exception of those in bibles and calendars.)
